Diagnostic Value of Seminal Vesiculography in Evaluation of Obstructive Azoospermia

Abstract
A retrospective study of seminal vesiculography(SVG) findings was undertaken in 62 patients with apparent obstructive azoospermia, both to evaluate the relative frequencies of various sites of obstruction and the presence of other structural
lesions and
as an aid I planning possible surgical correction. Obstruction was found in 18 patients(29%). In 5 patients, the obstruction was located at the level of the ejaculatory duct, and in another 5, it was in the vas. In 8 patients, the sites of
obstruction
were different on the two sides. Four patients were found to have nonobstructing structural lesions. Surgical treatment of the obstruction found by SVG was possible in 12 patients (67% of those with documented obstruction). The SVG study is an
excellent
method of evaluating the male genital tract, not only for obstruction, but also for other structural lesions. Because different obstructive lesions were found on the two sides in 44% of the patients with documented obstruction, we strongly
suggest
that
bilateral SVG be performed to aid in planning possible surgical correction of obstructive lesions.
